SONJA'S EYE ON THE WORLD
Colors of the Deep
My World is waiting for you to be discovered
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. On land and underwater. Having a passion for travelling and for diving, the step towards underwater photography was but a logical one. I wanted to catch the unique, interesting, colourful and sometimes weird creatures and places that make our world so unique. In the vast expanse of the universe our planet is but a mere speck of dust teeming with life, colour and beauty. Here on earth very few people pay attention to the small things in life. Beneath our oceans is no exception. In the ocean beauty can take on a strange face. And some of the critters can be as small as a grain of rice. But if you look close enough you will discover the beauty of the strangest and unique creatures our planet has to offer. I am trying to bring these wonders to life on the screen of your computer or tablet. I have worked hard for many years now perfecting my techniques.

Of all the different types of photography, underwater photography is probably one of the most difficult to practice. The difficulties and complexities of surface photography are increased dramatically due to the peculiarities of the underwater world. Not only because of the fact that you have to dunk delicate electronic technology in water, there is also the pressure of the water (at the recreational diving depth limit of 40 m there is a pressure of 5 Kg per cm² !) And also light, the essential element for photography, attenuates very rapidly underwater. It requires very specialised equipment and the knowledge of some advanced techniques to get a perfect picture. Underwater photos often suffer from loss of color and contrast when taken at a significant depth.
Digital image editor software was only used to adjust color balance to help offset the bluish tint of the water or to enhance exposure and contrast … not to manipulate the content.
MORE ABOUT ME

...or rather about us. Indeed, most of what I do, I do it together with my soulmate and partner in crime: hubby-the-husband. He's my dive buddy watching over me in the deep, my spotter, my IT specialist, he does the post processing of the photos, he's my staunchest ally and my fiercest critic... My desire and vision: to take stunning photographs, capturing emotions as much as interactions. Explore my site and you’ll find that I focus intently on living creatures, the places that make them who they are, and the raw emotions that make up their being. Interested?
